Alien

This picture was taken on a rainy day with not much opportunity to take pictures. My friend and I were stuck inside and decided to use this temporary hair chalk to color our hair wild colors. I put two buns in Maddie's hair and decided she needed to be infant of the camera. We used the brightest room in the house to capture her two buns, which unfortunately happened to be the bathroom. This picture was taken with a 4.0 aperture, a 1/160 shutter and a 1600 ISO. The lack of light caused me to have a high ISO. A high ISO partnered with a small aperture caused my shutter to be quite fast. In photoshop I brightened the picture using the brightness adjustment, and pushed the contrast. I added an artistic look to this photograph to set it aside from the rest of my photos and to push my knowledge of photoshop. I was able to do this by selecting filter gallery under the filter tab. In filter gallery I layered different techniques and styles to create what I felt complimented the picture. The background of this photograph is a different style from the filter gallery than what is seen over the model. I made multiple layers of filters and revealed different sections of them using a layer mask.

Desire

This was a re-edit of one of my older pictures. I originally had this photograph in color but decided I liked it better in black and white. I used a black and white adjustment layer to alter the colors to find the photographs best contrast. I pushed the reds down to give her lips more color, I kept the blues in the middle as her shirt was a pale blue color, and the yellows lighter so her skin didn't look dark or grainy.

OH MY GOSH

This was my first photo shoot this year. I had the privilege of shooting the first football game of the season from the field. I not only was able to capture the players but I was able to capture the crowd. We have a very supportive bleacher creature crowd wearing all red to support our team. I love this picture because I was able to capture the true emotion in Nataliyas face. I used a 5.6 aperture the background remained out of focus, a fast shutter of 1/200 to capture her movement, and an ISO of 800 because of the time of day, and lack of light.

Seriously Stylish

This photograph was taken in the studio with a 9.0 aperture, a 1/60 shutter, due to the little movement, and an ISO of 100 due to the amount of light. I used the burn tool on a very low percentage to contour her face after I softened her skin. I used the dodge tool to lighten a few of the pieces around her hair because it brightens her face. Her eyes are already blue but I used the hue and saturation tool to alter them slightly in order to match the blue in her dress.  Her dress was bulging in the back just slightly so I used liquify, which is found under filter, to push her dress in so she would appear her usual size. You can't go too far with liquify or it will look unnatural.

Queen Bee

A lot of light was present when taking this picture so my camera was set to a 1/125 shutter and a 200 ISO. This picture was taken with a 4.5 aperture to keep the focus on the model. Originally this photo had a background of a bathtub and an ugly wall, but I selected the model using the polygonal lasso tool, made a copy, and pasted her onto a blank background and added a vignette. I softened her skin by using a high pass on an inverted hard light layer. I used a mask to reveal just her skin so the rest of the picture stayed in focus.

Merry Christmas

This picture was taken for the holiday season. I captured Santa stealing the milk and cookies just in time. I used an aperture of 2.8 to to focus on his hand taking the cookies and to leave the background out of focus. I used a fast shutter to catch him in the act, and an ISO of 200 to bring out all of the christmas color. Some of the christmas lights reflected into the plate and the milk so, in photoshop, I used the hue and saturation adjustment layer to correct the color. Santa wore a suit that was a little too small so I used the stamp tool to stretch out his sleeve.

Illusion

My friend Izaak came to me and asked if I could take some senior pictures for him. I was so excited to take on new responsibility and put my skills to the test. This is my favorite picture from the photo shoot. My aperture was placed at a 5.6 so Izaak is in focus, but the brick around him is not. My shutter was 1/200 due to the amount of light and my ISO was 100. I desaturated the tiles by using a hue and saturation adjustment layer.
